Tseshaht First Nation and the B.C. government are celebrating an important step forward in their partnership, with provincial funds supporting Tseshaht as they work toward a new housing development that will benefit the entire Alberni Valley.

Highway 4 is closed at Cameron Lake Bluffs because sustained high winds pose safety concerns for cranes suspending protective wire mesh at the site. The mesh must be lowered, which would put the site at increased risk of falling debris.

Highway 4 is expected to open to limited travel as early as the weekend of June 24-25, 2023, after a wildfire closed the route on June 6.

The Highway 4 detour reopened as planned the evening of Friday, June 9, 2023, following the successful extraction of a vehicle from Francis Lake.

The Highway 4 detour will be closed for part of the day on Friday, June 9, 2023, as crews and environmental specialists work to extract a vehicle that rolled into Francis Lake along the detour.

Highway 4 remains closed at Cameron Lake Bluff due to wildfire affecting the area.

Drivers are advised Highway 4 is closed at Cameron Lake Bluff, near Koen Road, because of wildfire in the area. Travellers are asked to avoid travel in this area.

The Ministry of Forests will conduct aerial-spray treatments in the Port Alberni area in spring 2023 to eradicate spongy moths and minimize the risk they pose to forests, farms, orchards and trees.
