A community meeting for B.C.’s first Poverty Reduction Strategy will take place in Port Alberni on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.

The B.C. government is providing funding to promote cycling as an accessible transportation option and healthy lifestyle choice for students while providing work experience for two job-seekers from the Alberni Valley.

Port Alberni will receive $100,000 in BikeBC funding for the Stamp Avenue Multi-Use Path, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.

A resurfacing project has been set for the upcoming construction season to improve the condition of Beaver Creek Road for travellers and extend the life of the road surface.

The world is changing and B.C. students need to be ready to adapt to the careers of tomorrow. Students in the Alberni School District will be prepared thanks to $22,500 in provincial funding awarded to the district, helping to connect kids with opportunities in skilled trades and tech training. 

Students, teachers and staff at Wood Elementary school in the Alberni school district will benefit from $350,000 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.

Families in the Alberni school district will benefit from improved transportation services, thanks to $71,717 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Resurfacing work in two areas on Vancouver Island is now complete with construction wrapped up along Highway 4 near Tofino and Hector Road in Port Alberni.

Members of the public are advised that Maggie Lake Forest Service Road, 10 kilometres northwest of Ucluelet, will remain closed due to a rockfall at kilometre 9.
