An investment in adult literacy programs in the Prince George and surrounding area will support the reading, writing, math and computer skills people need to apply for new jobs, join in community activities and help their children with homework.

Driver education and trades-training programs are helping ensure Indigenous participants have the skills they need to take advantage of jobs and opportunities in communities on both ends of Highway 16.

Another height restriction has been removed from the Highway 97 corridor north of Prince George, with the completion of the Salmon River Bridge replacement project.

The BC Wildfire Service is encouraging the public to exercise caution with any outdoor burning. The current weather forecast is calling for increased winds starting today, through the long weekend, throughout the entire Prince George Fire Centre. Winds up to 50km/h, gusting to 80km/h in some areas, can be expected with abrupt wind-direction changes.

Effective at 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, all open burning will once again be allowed throughout the Prince George Fire Centre.

Due to the decreased fire activity and recent progress made by firefighting crews, the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the Order to Restrict Access that was implemented on Aug. 5, 2017, for the fires south of Vanderhoof.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, campfires will once again be allowed in the Vanderhoof Forest District.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, campfires will once again be allowed in some areas of the Prince George Fire Centre: the Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie, Peace and Fort Nelson forest districts.

Smoke originating from the large wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre has drifted north and is now visible throughout the Prince George Fire Centre.
