More than 90 Aboriginal learners in Northern B.C. are receiving training in their communities through five programs that will help them prepare for jobs such as health care assistants, skilled trades people and residential building maintenance assistants.

Vulnerable animals in northern B.C. will receive the care they need, thanks to an investment of approximately $1.5 million made by the B.C. government to upgrade the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) facility in Prince George.

Up to 205 First Nations people in communities stretching from Prince George to Fort Nelson will benefit from new skills-training opportunities designed to spark careers in trades and technical jobs such as carpentry, piping, welding, carpentry, machining and electrical.

Demonstrating the province’s commitment to species-at-risk, the Province is investing $27 million on a comprehensive, caribou recovery program, Premier Christy Clark announced at the 14th Annual Premier’s B.C. Natural Resources Forum.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating the death of a 2 year old Chetwynd child that occurred the evening of Jan. 7, 2017, at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) in Vancouver. The child had been admitted to the hospital in Chetwynd in the early hours of Jan. 7, and later transferred to BCCH.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following an avalanche south of Valemount on Dec. 30, 2016.
