As part of its commitment under the Provincial Domestic Violence Plan, the B.C. government is investing $500,000 to increase access to transition house and safe-home services for Aboriginal women and children who are affected by domestic violence.

The B.C. government will fund approximately 145 extreme weather shelter spaces across Greater Victoria this winter to help those whose health and safety may be threatened by cold, wet weather.

People at risk of homelessness, including youth, women, Aboriginal people and those leaving correctional facilities or hospitals in Victoria now have expanded access to rental assistance and support services with the launch of the new Homeless Prevention Program.

A pilot project that helps high-risk inmates transition back into society through housing, health and community supports has shown promise in reducing criminal behaviour among program participants and is being implemented at three B.C. correctional centres.

The B.C. Government will provide up to $1.5 million this winter to help more than 80 communities make additional shelter spaces available for those who are homeless when cold weather threatens the safety and health of individuals.
