Small abattoirs and other stakeholders have provided their ideas about how to improve provincial abattoir licensing and food security in rural communities, through a consultation process led by the Ministry of Agriculture.

British Columbians who love a glass of B.C. wine and support environmentally responsible businesses have easy choices ahead, as a new sustainability certification program for B.C. grape growers and wineries will put those green standards right on the label.

Premier John Horgan and Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, have released the following statement voicing support for British Columbia’s supply-managed food producers:

It is a fascinating journey. As an agriculture product moves through the food production system, there are many British Columbians who have worked hard to get that product on the shelf, so it is proudly displayed for consumers at the local farmers market, fishmonger or grocery store. 

When making a trip to their local grocery store, farmers market or going out for dinner, British Columbians are strongly influenced by their interest in supporting the local economy, and their desire for food that is fresh and safe to eat.
