With the flood situation in many parts of the province beginning to stabilize, the Government of British Columbia has amended its request for federal assistance to support B.C.’s response to flooding.

The Government of British Columbia has underscored its commitment to work with Indigenous peoples in the spirit of respect and collaboration by introducing a set of draft principles designed to guide the daily work of provincial government employees. Don Wright, head of the BC Public Service shared the draft principles with all 27,000 public service employees on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

In response to Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth’s request for federal support to assist British Columbia's work on flooding in B.C., Farnworth has expressed his gratitude and thanks for the federal government’s commitment to help:

The May long weekend is a great time to travel and visit friends and family.

The new wireless Alert Ready system was tested in British Columbia on May 9, 2018, and across Canada earlier in the week. Although many British Columbians received the alerts, many others did not. 

Wireless alerts will be tested for the first time in B.C. at 1:55 p.m. Pacific time on May 9, 2018, as part of a federal-provincial government initiative to improve public safety in the event of emergency.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available for eligible British Columbians in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (including municipalities, unincorporated areas and First Nations) who may have been impacted by flooding that began on April 26, 2018.

Communities throughout B.C. are now benefiting from $33.5 million in provincial emergency preparedness funding.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available for eligible British Columbians in the central Interior who may have been impacted by overland flooding or landslides from heavy rains that began on March 22, 2018.
