With the flood situation in many parts of the province beginning to stabilize, the Government of British Columbia has amended its request for federal assistance to support B.C.’s response to flooding.

The Government of British Columbia has underscored its commitment to work with Indigenous peoples in the spirit of respect and collaboration by introducing a set of draft principles designed to guide the daily work of provincial government employees. Don Wright, head of the BC Public Service shared the draft principles with all 27,000 public service employees on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

With hot weather forecast through the long weekend for much of the province, Emergency Management BC and the BC Coroners Service urge residents and visitors to take extra care in and around rivers and lakes.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available for eligible British Columbians who have been affected by the flooding that began on May 7, 2018.

The Government of British Columbia is encouraging local governments and First Nations communities along the lower Fraser River to prepare for potential flooding, due to increased snowmelt and higher-than-normal temperatures.

There were 161 suspected illicit drug overdose deaths in British Columbia in March 2018, the second-highest monthly total to date, based on the latest data provided by the BC Coroners Service.

The new wireless Alert Ready system was tested in British Columbia on May 9, 2018, and across Canada earlier in the week. Although many British Columbians received the alerts, many others did not. 

Wireless alerts will be tested for the first time in B.C. at 1:55 p.m. Pacific time on May 9, 2018, as part of a federal-provincial government initiative to improve public safety in the event of emergency.
