Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claire Trevena released the following statement regarding Greyhound Canada’s notice of Passenger Transportation Board application to amend their B.C. service:

Southern British Columbia experienced intense fire activity over the recent long weekend, and based on the weather outlook, this will continue for the foreseeable future.

As of Sept. 1, it is free to cross the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges.

Summer is gradually coming to a close, but the wildfire risk in many parts of the province remains a very serious concern. British Columbians are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

The annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria bike ride takes place on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an anticipated 1,500 cyclists riding through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula.

The popular Britton Creek rest area at the summit of the Coquihalla Highway is the first rest area in the province to offer free Wi-Fi to the travelling public, providing motorists an opportunity to stop, take a rest and connect with family and friends.

Crews are set to start work on the upgrades to Admirals Road between Hallowell Road and Maple Bank Road that will improve safety and access for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. 

With B.C. Day around the corner, everyone has a role to play in helping to prevent wildfires and having a safe, healthy long weekend.

The ministry will be reopening a second lane to traffic on the Malahat to accommodate summer traffic and the significantly higher volumes that are expected due to long weekend travellers and concert goers attending the Sunfest Country Music Festival in the Cowichan Valley.
