Crews are set to start work on the upgrades to Admirals Road between Hallowell Road and Maple Bank Road that will improve safety and access for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
“I look forward to seeing this project get underway as it will benefit residents and others who use this important community connection with safer intersections and more room for pedestrians and cyclists as well,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena.
The project includes widening the road with new curb, gutter and sidewalks, and upgrading the stormwater drainage system. The intersections at Maple Bank, Hallowell and See’Nu’Pin will be improved. At See’Nu’Pin Road, the turn lane will be enhanced and a new southbound left-turn lane will be constructed. In addition, new traffic lights will be installed at Maple Bank Road.
The ministry has awarded a $3.45-million contract to Jacob Bros. Construction Inc. Work is set to begin shortly, and the project is expected to be completed by winter 2017.
During construction, every effort will be made to ensure traffic delays are kept minimal, particularly during peak periods. One lane will be kept open to traffic in each direction between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Outside of these hours, drivers can expect single-lane alternating traffic at certain times. Work may also occur overnight.
Motorists are reminded to obey traffic control personnel, watch for workers and pay special attention to signs because traffic patterns will change throughout the project.
