Five new agreements between British Columbia and the Tŝilhqot’in Nation will provide greater clarity and certainty on activities in the Tŝilhqot’in Declared Title area in the Tsilhqot’in (Chilcotin) territory.

Members of the public are advised to use caution while travelling on Crown Land in the Cariboo where wildfires occurred in 2017, especially in areas where fireguards were established to help fight those fires.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The six Tŝilhqot’in community names within the Tŝilhqot’in Nation have been adopted as official names within the Province of British Columbia.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development will be presenting a series of information sessions and displays about how individuals and communities can prepare for and recover from wildfires.

The Government of British Columbia is providing $693,000 in grants to help manage the spread of invasive plants in the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development announced.

A prescribed burn is being planned at the BC Wildfire Service’s Puntzi Forward Attack Base, between May 2 and May 11, 2018, to reduce wildfire risks and prevent the encroachment of trees that could pose a hazard to aircraft.

The weather throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre is expected to be warm and breezy until the beginning of next week, with dry conditions persisting throughout most of the region.

Alkali Resource Management Ltd. and the Esketem’c First Nation, with the assistance of the BC Wildfire Service, plan to conduct a series of prescribed burns near Mayfield Lake between Wednesday, April 25 and May 4, 2018, weather conditions permitting.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development plans to conduct a series of ecosystem restoration burns southwest of Williams Lake between April 23 and May 15, 2018, weather conditions permitting.
