Due to improving weather conditions and fire suppression, Recreation Sites and Trails BC — in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service — will re-open select recreation sites and recreation trails within the Cariboo Fire Centre at 12 noon on Aug. 25, 2017.

A cold front bringing strong and variable winds, with gusts up to 60 km/h, is expected to move through the Cariboo Fire Centre on Friday, Aug. 18 and into the weekend. There is also a risk of lightning throughout the fire centre.

People living in the Williams Lake area can expect to see columns of smoke rising from within the Wildwood wildfire today and in the coming days.

Although fire activity increased on many wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre on July 26 and July 27, 2017, fires in the Williams Lake area have not grown substantially in the last few days.

A wind warning has been issued for the Cariboo Fire Centre by weather forecasters working for the BC Wildfire Service.

After several days of favourable weather for firefighting, weather conditions are worsening in the Cariboo Fire Centre. An increase in fire behaviour and wildfire growth is expected.

BC Wildfire Service crews are continuing their efforts to supress a wildfire burning about five kilometres south of Pantage Lake and 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel.

Effective at noon on Thursday, April 13, 2017, Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The B.C. government is providing a total of $232,000 to two local organizations to help manage invasive plants in the Cariboo region.

Local governments in Williams Lake are receiving federal-provincial investments in critical clean water and wastewater infrastructure, announced MLA Donna Barnett for Cariboo-Chilcotin on behalf of Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender.
