Three times each school year, the Sooke school district (SD 62) comes together to acknowledge Aboriginal student successes – and there are plenty of reasons to celebrate. 

Each year, thousands of musically talented students from around the globe come together in Monterey, Calif. for Monterey’s Next Generation Festival.

More than $2 million from the new Rural Education Enhancement Fund will flow to four school districts to help keep seven rural schools open.

Minister of Education Mike Bernier released the following statement in response to the budget submitted by the Vancouver School Board:

Langley Secondary school will be seismically upgraded and the Langley school district has been given the go ahead by the Ministry of Education to start planning for a new secondary school in the Willoughby Slope area.

Natasha Jollymour is part of a very small group of chosen students. The Grade 12 Kamloops student at Westsyde Secondary school just received a $80,000 scholarship to attend the University of British Columbia this fall.

The Seaquam Secondary school robotics club had become so popular, teacher Bryce Hamade incorporated robots into the curriculum, as part of his industrial design course.

Aboriginal student learning, success and well-being are the focus of the third Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement signed between the Ministry of Education, the Peace River South school district (SD 59) and the local Aboriginal community.  

The Peace River North school district (SD 60) signed its second Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement (AEEA) to help more Aboriginal students graduate and reach their dreams and goals.
