Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Coralee Oakes issued the following statement today:

Almost $2.58 million is being provided to 257 artists and arts organizations in British Columbia as part of the latest round of successful BC Arts Council grant adjudications.

British Columbians considering running for local government positions can now submit their nominations to the Chief Election Officer in their community.

A $400,000 B.C. government grant to KidSport BC will help ensure all children in British Columbia have the opportunity to participate in sport.

The Government of British Columbia has provided $151,250 to fund 36 Hosting BC grants for diverse sports competitions this year and in 2015.

Eligible human and social services non-profit organizations can apply now for a B.C. community gaming grant. The application deadline is Nov. 30, 2014.

Professional artists, administrators and arts organizations are now able to apply for funding within two project assistance programs delivered through the BC Arts Council.

The Government of British Columbia approved $16.7 million in community gaming grants for arts and culture and $29.1 million for sport during 2013-14.

Every year, gaming revenues generate hundreds of millions of dollars that the Government of British Columbia invests in providing key services, including health care and education, for all citizens and communities throughout the province.
