Murray Rankin, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, and Marvin Yahey, Chief of Blueberry River First Nations, have issued the following update on negotiations to implement the June 29, 2021, ruling of the B.C. Supreme Court:

Communities throughout the province are restoring watersheds and wetlands to protect aquatic ecosystems and promote healthier environments for British Columbians and wildlife.

Three new projects, in partnership with coastal Indigenous Nations, will target marine debris along B.C.’s shoreline, including more remote areas in Haida Gwaii and the Discovery Islands.  

Two mink have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans, on a farm under quarantine after it had mink test positive in May 2021.

A temporary ban on the widespread sale and use of second-generation rodenticides will help protect owls and other wildlife from secondary poisoning while government conducts a science review and steps up the promotion of alternatives.

Effective immediately, Shane Berg, British Columbia’s deputy chief forester, has set a new allowable annual cut (AAC) level for Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 1, located In the Skeena region north of Terrace.
