Winter weather is just around the corner and the ministry is reminding motorists that B.C.’s winter tire rules come into effect as of Oct. 1.

Drivers and cyclists are advised of upcoming rock excavation work on the Trans-Canada Highway at the West Shore Parkway and to expect delays during this time.

The annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria bike ride takes place on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an anticipated 1,500 cyclists riding through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula.

Keeping provincial highways, bridges and side roads in good condition is key to a safe and reliable transportation network, and government has earmarked more than $28 million for this year’s rehabilitation program on Vancouver Island.

A new digital sign will provide drivers travelling west on Highway 14 with up-to-date information on road conditions, lane closures and commuting delays.

Access to the parking lot at Sombrio Beach will be temporarily restricted for safety measures over the May long weekend to discourage illegal activities, such as parties and vandalism, which have occurred in past years.

Work has begun on $9.1 million worth of highway improvements that will benefit drivers, cyclists and pedestrians along Highway 14 in and around Sooke as part of a partnership between the Province and the District of Sooke.
