Updated statistics released from the BC Coroners Service show the number of illicit drug overdose deaths remained relatively steady throughout September.

Health Minister Terry Lake has issued the following statement in recognition of World Mental Health Day:

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, reached a critical milestone with the announcement of the three qualified proponents shortlisted to participate in the next stage of the competitive selection process to design and build the new Centre for Mental Health and Addictions.

The completion of the Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre - Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay, was officially marked by the visit of Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

To bolster the efforts underway to prevent illicit drug overdoses and related deaths, Premier Christy Clark announced that the Province is providing $10 million to support a British Columbia addiction treatment research and training centre and to fund strategies identified under the Joint Task Force on Overdose Prevention.

$500,000 in Age-friendly Community Planning and Project grants are now available for local governments to help make their communities more inclusive for older adults.

The Province has provided $60,000 to train a group of clinicians working with high-risk children on northern Vancouver Island.
