2017 is ready to ring in where 2016 is leaving off for employment growth in British Columbia – and that’s at the top spot in Canada.

This was the year British Columbia secured a liquefied natural gas export industry.

Three months after reopening the Brule Mine, Conuma Coal Resources Ltd. (Conuma Coal) has started hiring ahead of its planned Jan. 2, 2017, restart of the Wolverine Mine near Tumbler Ridge.

Buoyed by nation-leading GDP growth, low unemployment and a strong U.S. dollar, 2016 is proving to be an impressive year for British Columbia’s retail sector – and this success is set to continue into 2017.

2016 was a year of historic investments in transit for Metro Vancouver. It began with a commitment by the Government of British Columbia for approximately a quarter of a billion dollars ($246 million) over three years for significant transit improvements and expansions in Metro Vancouver.

British Columbians are benefiting from the provincial government’s continued focus on improving consumer choice and convenience, increasing flexibility and reducing red tape for liquor sales and service in B.C.  

British Columbia is on track to remain one of Canada’s strongest economies in 2017 as most private sector economists, banks and economic think-tanks are forecasting the province will continue to record real GDP growth that ranks among the best in Canada.
