Lightning and hot, dry weather is forecasted for the Cariboo Fire Centre in the coming days, so the BC Wildfire Service is preparing for increased wildfire activity and asking the public to report any smoke or fires that they see.

Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad has issued the following statement to mark National Aboriginal Day:

Drivers are advised that the closure scheduled for Highway 1 between McKenzie Avenue/Admirals Road and the Helmcken interchange has been rescheduled.

Effective immediately, the new allowable annual cut for the Quesnel Timber Supply Area is set at 2,607,000 cubic metres, chief forester Diane Nicholls announced.

Effective at noon on Monday, June 19, 2017, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Floodwaters and groundwater in many places in the Central Interior are expected to continue to rise, and the threat may not be over for some time.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to conduct a series of prescribed burns near Raven Lake (about 25 kilometres southeast of Alexis Creek) between June 14 and June 23, 2017.

All travellers, including drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, are reminded that McKenzie Avenue will be closed while construction crews install the new Galloping Goose Trail bridge as part of the McKenzie interchange project.
