Premier David Eby has issued the following statement celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day:

The Province has secured a mandate to enter discussions with the Tŝilhqot’in Nation, if and when needed, to set out how the requirement of Tŝilhqot’in consent would be integrated with provincial decision-making for mining projects in the Teẑtan Area in the Interior of British Columbia.

Culturally significant land in the Cowichan Valley has been returned to Lyackson First Nation and Cowichan Tribes communities, a reconciliation landmark between the Nations and B.C.

The Nisg̱a’a Nation and the governments of Canada and British Columbia are commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Nisg̱a’a Final Agreement (the Nisg̱a’a Treaty) as a major milestone on the path of reconciliation.

Eligible voters are voting on whether to ratify the Kitselas Treaty and self-government Constitution. While voting has been in progress online and through mail-in ballots, the in-person vote is being held on April 10, 2025.
