Local and First Nations governments now are able to prohibit cannabis production in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) within their communities, unless it is grown in ways that preserve the productive capacity of agricultural land.

Small abattoirs and other stakeholders have provided their ideas about how to improve provincial abattoir licensing and food security in rural communities, through a consultation process led by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ‘Namgis, Kwikwasutinuxw Haxwa’mis and Mamalilikulla First Nations and the Province of British Columbia have executed a letter of understanding (LOU), formalizing ongoing talks regarding salmon aquaculture in the Broughton Area.

It is a fascinating journey. As an agriculture product moves through the food production system, there are many British Columbians who have worked hard to get that product on the shelf, so it is proudly displayed for consumers at the local farmers market, fishmonger or grocery store.
