Families of children and youth with support needs can soon access supports and services through newly established pilot family connections centres in four B.C. communities.

As British Columbians get used to a new normal brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, child care providers like Susan Ellis knew she and her staff would have to find creative ways to provide comfort and care for the children who were no longer attending their centre in person.

As part of its commitment under the Provincial Domestic Violence Plan, the B.C. government is investing $500,000 to increase access to transition house and safe-home services for Aboriginal women and children who are affected by domestic violence.

British Columbians with mental health and substance use issues will receive increased support, thanks to $2.9 million in Community Action Initiative grants.

Children and families affected by mental illness, substance abuse and domestic violence will receive greater support through the expansion of an innovative health and safety initiative.
