The Province is declaring a state of emergency for the unincorporated Stikine region in response to the ongoing wildfire situation and is expanding campfire bans throughout the province.

People throughout British Columbia are encouraged to be prepared for heat as many regions of the province experience elevated temperatures and heat warnings.

Premier David Eby and Bowinn Ma, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, have released the following statement marking two years since the Lytton wildfire:

A vital transportation artery in Merritt that was heavily damaged by floodwaters will be rebuilt to a higher standard to make it more resilient to future flooding events and be safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

A series of investments by the governments of British Columbia and Canada will help the Tŝilhqot’in National Government strengthen climate resilience and emergency management for its people and communities.

The Province continues to provide support to evacuees in northeast B.C. who require assistance through Emergency Support Services (ESS), such as lodging, food, clothing and other incidentals.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) eligibility has been expanded for people affected by flooding from April 27 until May 16, 2023, and now includes additional areas in the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary and Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
