British Columbians are invited to comment on the proposed master plan update for Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon until March 25, 2016.

Current weather conditions allow private landowners, BC Wildfire Service personnel and industry partners to reduce wildfire risks by burning piles of wood debris.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, the current open burning ban will be completely rescinded within the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, the current open burning ban will be rescinded in the Clearwater Fire Zone and in areas above 1,200 metres in the Salmon Arm Fire Zone.

Effective at noon on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, campfires are once again permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The majority of the thick smoke blanketing many areas of southern B.C., is drifting northward from large wildfires in the United States.

There are 13 new wildfires burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre, including three new “fires of note” in the Penticton, Merritt and Kamloops fire zones.

Due to the ongoing threat of wildfires, high-risk activities such as cutting firewood are subject to restrictions throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Effective at noon on Friday, July 3, 2015, all open fires - including campfires - will be prohibited throughout the entire Kamloops Fire Centre. This prohibition will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.
