BC Wildfire Service crews are continuing suppression efforts on a wildfire burning in the Homathko River-Tatlayoko Protected Area, about 220 kilometres southwest of Williams Lake.

The Province has strengthened regulations to ensure that hunters do not use flying drones to help them track wildlife, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Steve Thomson announced.

The public is reminded that, despite recent rainfall, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning prohibitions remain in place throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Effective at noon on Thursday, June 16, 2016, Category 2 open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, due to a decreased wildfire risk in the region.

People in Naramata and surrounding areas may see smoke this morning from a small training burn occurring about five kilometres southeast of Naramata, along the Arawana Forest Service Road.

In response to the first call under the $75-million BC Rural Dividend, 180 applications were received from a broad cross-section of communities, not-for-profit associations and First Nations from throughout the province.
