Below-normal stream flows and signs of drought in smaller streams have caused the Province to declare a Level 3 drought rating for the Fort Nelson area.

With weather conditions expected to remain warm and dry in the coming week, dropping water levels have prompted the Province to announce a Level 3 drought rating for Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Category 2 open burning will again be allowed throughout the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, effective at noon on Friday, June 7, 2019.

Campfires, as well as Category 2 and 3 open burning, will again be allowed throughout the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction beginning at noon on Friday, June 7, 2019.

The BC Wildfire Service is sending additional personnel to Alberta to help respond to an increasingly challenging wildfire situation.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to several wildfires within the Cassiar Fire Zone of the Northwest Fire Centre and is preparing for potential new wildfire activity in the region, due to higher-than-normal temperatures and drought conditions.

The public is invited to provide input on a program that helps to ensure the sustainable management of private forests in B.C. until July 9, 2019.

Effective at noon Pacific time on Thursday, May 30, 2019, Category 2 open burns will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction to reduce wildfire risks and protect public safety.
