With weeks of fire season remaining, and forecasts for continued hot, dry conditions that carry the risk of further lightning strikes, the provincial government has requested assistance from the federal government for its firefighting efforts. 

Area restriction orders are in effect for both the Goldstream River wildfire (N42293) and the Blacktail Mountain wildfire (N51329) in the Southeast Fire Centre.

Effective at 8 a.m. PDT on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, an area restriction order will be in place for Crown Land in the vicinity of the Hugh Allen Creek wildfire, located about 60 kilometres southeast of the Village of Valemount on the east side of Kinbasket Lake.

An area restriction order is in effect for Crown land in the vicinity of the Nichyeskwa Creek wildfire, about 80 kilometres northeast of Smithers and about 25 kilometres northwest of Fort Babine.

Effective immediately, an area restriction is in effect for Crown land in the vicinity of the Chutanli Lake wildfire to protect public safety, ensure the safety of firefighting personnel and accommodate firefighting activities.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to multiple wildfires in the Bulkley Fire Zone of the Northwest Fire Centre, including the Torkelsen Lake wildfire.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to three new Wildfires of Note in the Southeast Fire Centre.

The Province is warning the public not to release aquarium fish into streams, rivers or lakes, after biologists discovered an invasive species breeding in a local stream.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to 13 wildfires in the Bulkley Fire Zone, within the Northwest Fire Centre.

Effective at noon Pacific time on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, all open burning — including campfires, Category 2 open burns and Category 3 open burns — will be prohibited throughout the Omineca region within the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
