More people in the north Island will have access to high-quality long-term care as Island Health prepares to build a new care home with more than 150 beds.

Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, has issued the following statement in recognition of National Injury Prevention Day, July 5, 2023:

Work is underway for an updated and expanded Cariboo Memorial Hospital, which will improve access to care for people in Williams Lake and surrounding Cariboo-Chilcotin area, including the First Nations of the Secwépemc, Tŝ ilhqot’in and Dãkelh Dené.

People in Dawson Creek and area are one step closer to better access to care as a preferred proponent has been selected and the contract signed, with construction starting in July for the new Dawson Creek and District Hospital.

More people living in the eastern Fraser Valley will have access to high-quality long-term care as Fraser Health prepares to build a new care community with 200 beds.

People in Nanaimo and area will have greater access to care as a new 12-bed intensive care unit (ICU) at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital opens for patients on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
