XʷMƏƟKʷƏY̓ƏM (MUSQUEAM), SḴWX̱WÚ7MESH (SQUAMISH) AND SƏLILWƏTAɬ (TSLEIL-WAUTUTH) TERRITORIES / VANCOUVER – First Nations leaders and provincial officials from across B.C. are coming together for the eighth B.C. Cabinet and First Nations Leaders’ Gathering, working together to recognize, respect and advance government-to-government relationships.

Tseshaht First Nation and the B.C. government are celebrating an important step forward in their partnership, with provincial funds supporting Tseshaht as they work toward a new housing development that will benefit the entire Alberni Valley.

The Province of British Columbia, the Government of Canada and K’ómoks First Nation are releasing a “what we heard report” from discussions with the public about the closing of K’ómoks treaty negotiations.

Indigenous communities in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and the Interior are heading clean-energy projects with B.C. government funding, which will lower utility costs and contribute to more economic opportunities and stable telecommunications in emergencies.

Sooke Mountain and Discovery Island Marine provincial parks are being considered for inclusion in treaties being negotiated with the T’Sou-ke and Songhees Nations.

The Province and four Treaty 8 First Nations – Fort Nelson, Saulteau, Halfway River and Doig River First Nations – have reached consensus on a collaborative approach to land and resource planning, and to advance regional solutions to benefit everyone living in northeastern B.C. and Treaty 8 territory.
