As part of the Provincial Domestic Violence Plan, the Province is investing more than $1.5 million to continue to expand and strengthen supports for those affected by domestic violence in B.C.

The Province of British Columbia and the Lax Kw’alaams Band have reached multiple agreements to ensure benefits accrue for First Nations as a result of the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export industry in the Prince Rupert area.

The B.C. government is counting down to Moose Hide Campaign Day on February 16, 2017 by encouraging men throughout the BC Public Service and members of the Legislative Assembly to participate in the B.C.-born campaign to stop violence against women and girls.

It has been more than 60 years since the Cheslatta people were displaced from their homes and cultural sites to make way for construction of Kenny Dam in northwestern B.C. The Cheslatta Carrier Nation and the B.C. Government signed a framework agreement designed to help heal historic wounds and shape a better future.

The B.C. government is providing $250,000 this year to support the work of the Moose Hide Campaign, a growing movement of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad and Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton have issued the following statement:

A total of 278 First Nations people will benefit from $4-million in new funding to help them become job ready for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.

As part of its commitment under the Provincial Domestic Violence Plan, the B.C. government is investing $500,000 to increase access to transition house and safe-home services for Aboriginal women and children who are affected by domestic violence.
