Indigenous groups and local governments are reaching out in their urban communities to have important conversations about reconciliation, supported by a partnership between the Province and the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM).

Scott Fraser, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, has released the following statement in recognition of the fifth anniversary of the landmark Tsilhqot'in Decision:

More than 65 years after their lands were flooded to make way for the creation of the Nechako Reservoir, the Cheslatta Carrier Nation have signed agreements with the Province of British Columbia that provide restitution and redress for impacts suffered by their community and their peoples.

The Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) and the provincial government marked the 10th anniversary of the Tsawwassen First Nation Treaty Effective Date by displaying the Nation’s flag inside the B.C. Parliament Buildings.

Seven Secwepemc communities and the Province have committed to collaborating on a long-term reconciliation agreement focused on implementing inherent rights, improving community well-being and advancing government-to-government relationships.

The Homalco First Nation is implementing a community energy plan to promote efficient energy consumption and savings, supported by a $140,000 equity investment from the Province.

The Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is moving ahead with the redevelopment of an industrial site into a solar farm, supported by a $300,000 equity investment from the Province.
