Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, has issued the following statement about the release of Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for January 2023:

The StrongerBC Economic Plan is delivering support for people in rural British Columbia through a new fund that will diversify local economies, promote value-added innovation in the forestry sector and create thousands of good-paying jobs for British Columbians.  

More employment opportunities are underway for contractors and forestry workers throughout rural B.C. under the Province’s Forest Employment Program (FEP).

A new initiative supported by the StrongerBC Economic Plan will help the Yuneŝit’in Government and the rest of the Tŝilhqot’in Nation in B.C.’s Central Interior to better process wood to build new homes for people and families using the Nation’s local timber supply.

As B.C. moves forward with the recently released Mass Timber Action Plan, the Province has signed a significant agreement with Finland to continue collaboration on research, advancement, development and commercialization of the forest bioeconomy and mass timber.

Two months ago, Premier John Horgan and I released the StrongerBC Economic Plan. The plan builds on B.C.’s recovery by setting out clear long-term goals and economic missions aimed at growing a clean and inclusive economy that works for everyone.

A new Forestry Innovation Investment (FII) office in Vietnam will help drive trade opportunities and sustainable jobs in B.C.’s forestry sector while offering greater protection from market volatility and other global challenges.
