A new agreement between British Columbia and Alberta means B.C. wineries can again ship their products directly to Alberta consumers, reopening a vital sales and tourism channel for B.C.’s wine industry.

The B.C. government and the City of Surrey have reached an agreement that will complete the transition to the Surrey Police Service (SPS) by providing oversight, accountability and cost mitigation for residents and businesses in Surrey. 

Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has released the following statement following the favourable decision in the Surrey police transition judicial review litigation:

People in British Columbia will benefit from projects working to advance community safety, address gender-based violence and support Indigenous healing through funding from the civil forfeiture grant program.

The Province is continuing to take action to keep people and communities safe through new initiatives that help to combat gangs, fight organized crime, and stop criminals from bringing violence and toxic drugs into communities.

ICBC is providing a $110 rebate to eligible drivers through prudent financial management and better-than-expected investment income.

The Province has secured the next milestone in the Surrey police transition plan by setting a target date for the Surrey Police Service to assume policing and law enforcement in the City of Surrey.

Changes introduced to the Police Act will improve governance and oversight of policing as part of the Province’s work to make systemic improvements to the policing and public safety landscape in B.C.
