A new focus on social innovation in the Community and Employer Partnerships program will support B.C.’s growing social-enterprise sector and increase the potential for social innovation in B.C.

A Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation includes social impact purchasing requirements that will create employment opportunities for British Columbians receiving income and disability assistance.

Five people in the Cariboo region will gain new job skills as they upgrade the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail and other local recreation sites through a Job Creation Partnership with the British Columbia government.

The Province is investing $761,038 to provide 75 at-risk youth with valuable work experience through temporary employment placements with social enterprises in the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria regions.  

B.C. social enterprises make positive social, cultural and environmental contributions to the province, but until now, there has been limited information about the sector and its labour-market challenges.

Government is supporting B.C. social enterprises that make a positive impact as they pursue social, cultural and environmental goals in communities throughout the province.

Eighteen job seekers will gain valuable work experience and contribute to the success of five local festivals, sports and community events, thanks to almost $110,000 in provincial funding from the Community and Employer Partnerships program.

Up to 16 job seekers will gain valuable work experience and contribute to the ongoing restoration of the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site in the Port Edward/Prince Rupert area, through a Job Creation Partnership with the Province of British Columbia.
