Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, has issued the following statement regarding the recent resignations from the Village of McBride council:

The B.C. government has awarded the Indus Media Foundation a one-time grant of $248,500 to share South Asian heritage through exhibition displays and learning tools intended for B.C. schools and community spaces. Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, along with Amrik Virk, MLA for Surrey-Tynehead, addressed Surrey high school students and community members at Simon Fraser University.

Two prestigious members of B.C.’s arts and culture community, Susan Jackson and Yosef Wosk, have been appointed to the BC Arts Council board.

Approximately 800 taekwondo athletes from more than 100 countries will be showcasing their best kicks, spins and jumps at the 2016 World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) junior championships.

Visual artists, craft artists and independent critics and curators throughout British Columbia are invited to apply for funding through the BC Arts Council. Awards are available for artistic projects that focus on the creation of new work.  

Performing arts presenters throughout British Columbia are receiving $331,500 in grants to engage professional touring artists and enhance programming activity.

Premier Christy Clark announced at the Union of B.C. Municipalities 2016 Conference $148.5 million in provincial funding for the new Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.

The Union of BC Municipalities annual convention is being held in Victoria, B.C. September 26-30 at the Victoria Convention Centre. More than 1,800 delegates will attend the annual event that includes workshops, clinics, resolution and debates, as well as speeches from the Premier, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and the Leader of the Opposition.
