Significant progress is being made to manage invasive plant species in the Thompson-Nicola region, as part of a $2.2-million pilot project that began this spring and will continue into 2020.

The B.C. government has proclaimed May 2017 as “Invasive Species Action Month” to help raise awareness of invasive plants and animals in British Columbia and to highlight the environmental and economic damage they can cause.

Following the results of an independent third-party safety study and extensive community engagement, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is moving forward on improvements to the Highway 97 and Stickle Road intersection north of Vernon.

The Province released an updated design for the McKenzie interchange project that includes new details on noise mitigation, environmental enhancements, as well as additional features for cyclists, pedestrians and transit users.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has committed an additional $2.25 million over the next three years to reduce the spread of invasive species in B.C.
