Adult literacy programs in the northwest region of the province are giving people the reading, writing, math and computer skills needed to understand household budgets, join in community activities and help their children with their homework.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, all open burning will once again be allowed throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Effective at noon on Sept. 11, 2018, campfires will once again be allowed throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Rain and cooler temperatures have reduced the wildfire risk in most parts of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded campfire bans in specific regions effective at noon (Pacific Time) on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, the existing campfire ban in the Coastal Fire Centre will be expanded to include Haida Gwaii.

Local festivals and events will attract attendees from near and far this summer, with the Government of British Columbia supporting their success through funding for enhanced promotion.

Extremely warm and dry conditions have prompted the Province to announce a Level 3 hydrological drought rating for much of coastal British Columbia.

As of noon on July 25, 2018, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning will be prohibited in Haida Gwaii, although campfires will still be allowed there.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, all open burning (including campfires and Category 3 fires) will be prohibited within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the fog zone.

Five resurfacing projects have begun in the Skeena and Bulkley-Stikine districts, to improve safety and efficiency of highways 37 and 118, and on Tow Hill Road, east of Masset.
