People who travel along the Trans-Canada Highway through Chase will soon see crews working to further improve safety and efficiency.

Crews are doing investigative fieldwork in the Kicking Horse Canyon over the next several weeks as part of the preparation for major highway improvements to begin late this year.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s assessment of the entire Island Rail (formerly E&N) Corridor has been released.

Portions of three Vancouver Island highways will be resurfaced this spring and summer as part of an $8.5-million project to improve conditions for people who travel on these routes.

Work has resumed on the Highway 1 Illecillewaet four-laning project following the winter shut down, with enhanced safety precautions in place for workers to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19.

Under new guidelines set by Transport Canada to reduce and mitigate the risks of COVID-19, additional safety measures are now in place for the Province’s inland ferry system to help protect the safety of passengers and crew.

Drivers are reminded that winter tire regulations remain in place until April 30, 2020, on many highways to account for early spring snowfall.
