Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone has issued the following statement on the announcement by BC Ferries of a tariff increase and fuel rebate effective April 1, 2016:

The British Columbia government is providing $324 million in operating contributions to BC Transit over the next three years.

To create equity in the system the Province is investing $170 million over the next three years to ensure about 100,000 people on disability assistance in B.C. will receive a rate increase of up to $77 a month as of Sept. 1, 2016.

British Columbia’s continued fiscal discipline and steady economic growth are providing the means for new and increased funding for services, helping families with the cost of living, and taking new steps to help promote home ownership.

The Province is providing $8 million in funding this year to support infrastructure improvements at B.C. airports.

What will the future Brunette Interchange on Highway 1 look like? That’s what the B.C. government is starting work on now – as part of the conceptual design phase of the Brunette Interchange Project on the Highway 1 corridor.

The public is invited to attend a drop-in open house on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, to learn more about the $36-million Mountain Highway Interchange project designed to improve traffic flow and safety on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) north of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.
