Environment Minister Mary Polak announced next steps towards developing a Climate Leadership Plan by spring 2016, as she marked the release of the Climate Leadership Team’s recommendations for the B.C. government’s new Climate Leadership Plan.

The Province is proclaiming the first-ever Conservation Officer Day in recognition of the important work done by B.C.’s Conservation Officer Service (COS) to protect the environment and ensure both human and wildlife safety.

Current weather conditions allow private landowners, BC Wildfire Service personnel and industry partners to reduce wildfire risks by burning piles of wood debris.

This past summer popular fishing areas throughout the province saw enhanced protection with more conservation officers on patrol – thanks to a generous funding boost of $100,000 from the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

Environment Minister Mary Polak and Natural Gas Development Minister Rich Coleman have issued an environmental assessment certificate to Woodfibre LNG Ltd. for the Woodfibre LNG project, which is located in the District of Squamish. 

Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Peter Fassbender introduced legislation, paving the way to implement expense limits for the next local government elections in British Columbia in 2018.  

Effective at noon on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, the current open burning ban will be completely rescinded within the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Government is strengthening services on the Downtown Eastside through a rapid response team model that will reach out to directly serve the needs and address the safety of the area’s highest-risk youth.
