The Province is taking action to adapt B.C.’s forests to ensure long-term sustainability and good-paying jobs by enlisting BC Timber Sales (BCTS) to play a larger role in reducing wildfire risk and enhancing forest and community resilience through its operations.

The B.C. government has launched a review of BC Timber Sales (BCTS) to ensure British Columbia’s forestry sector is continually evolving to overcome challenges and create a guideline for a stronger, more resilient future.

More than 280 million trees were planted in B.C. forests in 2024 due to the Province’s efforts.

Value-added wood manufacturers are encouraged to join three new accelerator tables that will work to expand the sector in B.C.

Communities around the Province will see less plastic in landfills after three million single-use plastic tree seedling wraps, which support 45 million seedlings, are eliminated from the tree-planting process in 2024.

Immediate steps will help expand public engagement in forest planning and protect some of the most rare and unique forest habitats throughout the province.

As the Province continues implementation of the Old Growth Strategic Review, the latest numbers released show old-growth logging in B.C. has decreased to the lowest level on record.
