In response to a request to help the Baldy Hughes Addiction Treatment Centre and Therapeutic Community build upon its achievements to-date and provide a stronger model for the future, BC Housing is temporarily assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the centre.
The request by the board of directors of the New Hope Recovery Society was made to further develop and improve upon its treatment model, and to build a solid foundation with a view to expand the centre's operations.
While the current treatment and recovery programs are proving successful, the board believes additional operations support can help staff develop an even stronger treatment model to ensure the centre can fulfil its mandate and grow.
The Province is dedicated to providing a stable, safe and secure environment at Baldy Hughes, where people can recover from their addictions, improve their lives and make a positive contribution to the community.
In December, 2010, the Province announced it was purchasing the 26-hectare property for $3 million, and providing $277,000 in annual operating funding from BC Housing.
