The B.C. government, the City of Vancouver and Holborn Properties have signed an agreement to allow up to 50 units to be built at Little Mountain prior to the completion of the rezoning process.
The new units will be offered first to tenants that relocated off-site for the demolition and construction. The agreement also allows the four remaining households to stay in their current units and move directly into the new housing upon completion.
The Little Mountain property in Vancouver, bounded by 33rd to 37th avenues between Main and Ontario streets, is being redeveloped into a mixed-use community. The original 224 social housing units will be replaced with 234 units and ensure there is a bedroom-for-bedroom replacement of the original affordable housing on the Little Mountain site. The new social housing units will be targeted to families and seniors.
The B.C. government is investing all of the net proceeds of the sale of the site into social housing in the province, including more than $300 million for more than 1,500 new housing units at 14 city-owned sites in Vancouver. To date, six of these developments with over 550 new units have been completed, and eight other developments are under construction or in the planning stages.
