The B.C. government, the City of Vancouver and Holborn Properties have signed an agreement to allow up to 50 units to be built at Little Mountain prior to the completion of the rezoning process.

The new units will be offered first to tenants that relocated off-site for the demolition and construction. The agreement also allows the four remaining households to stay in their current units and move directly into the new housing upon completion.

The Little Mountain property in Vancouver, bounded by 33rd to 37th avenues between Main and Ontario streets, is being redeveloped into a mixed-use community. The original 224 social housing units will be replaced with 234 units and ensure there is a bedroom-for-bedroom replacement of the original affordable housing on the Little Mountain site. The new social housing units will be targeted to families and seniors.

The B.C. government is investing all of the net proceeds of the sale of the site into social housing in the province, including more than $300 million for more than 1,500 new housing units at 14 city-owned sites in Vancouver. To date, six of these developments with over 550 new units have been completed, and eight other developments are under construction or in the planning stages.

Quotes:

Rich Coleman, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas and Responsible for Housing -

"Today's agreement honours our commitment to include social housing units in the first phase of redevelopment at Little Mountain. Together with our partners, we will soon see the benefits of this socially inclusive and affordable housing community within Riley Park."

Mayor Gregor Robertson, City of

"Little Mountain has a long history in Vancouver and with this redevelopment, we will see it revitalized to provide a range of housing options for Vancouver's growing and changing population."

Joo Kim Tiah, Holborn Properties -

"We are excited to begin construction of the first phase of social housing units at Little Mountain. We recognize the urgency of the social housing component in this project and remain committed to work with the community as we concurrently proceed to the rezoning phase of the project. We believe Little Mountain will be an exemplary model of community development in the years to come."
