BC LiquorStores is unveiling a bottle of Balvenie Fifty, the recently bottled 50-year-old single malt scotch whisky from Balvenie Distillery, on Nov. 19, 2012. This bottle is one of only 88 worldwide and the first to be available in Canada.

Balvenie Fifty celebrates Malt Master David Stewart's 50 years with the Balvenie Distillery and is one of the rarest whiskies to be produced by the distillery.

This rare and highly collectible bottle of single malt scotch whisky is being offered for sale at the BC LiquorStores flagship store at 39th and Cambie on Nov. 19, 2012 and comes with an equally rare price of $33,500.

"We work really hard to establish excellent business relationships with our suppliers. Those relationships enable us to offer our customers highly sought after products, as well as a great selection of some of the best spirits in the world from the top producers," said Adele Shaw, the Liquor Distribution Branch's spirits portfolio manager. "I encourage those with a taste for scotch to come to our 39th and Cambie location on Monday to sample a range of the Balvenie whiskies that are currently available at our BC LiquorStores."

Balvenie Brand Ambassador, Lorne Cousin, will be in the Cambie Kitchen at our 39th and Cambie location for an exclusive tasting and education event about Balvenie's finest between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Customers will be able to enjoy samples of Balvenie 12 YO Doublewood, Balvenie 12 YO Signature, Balvenie 15 YO Single Barrel and Balvenie 21 YO Port Wood. The bottle of Balvenie Fifty will be unveiled during this event.

Balvenie Fifty was distilled in 1962 and matured in a European oak sherry hogshead. The distillery describes the result this way:

The particularly long maturation has created a wonderful fragrant and floral whisky, which is velvety sweet with a beautifully balanced combination of sweet citrus notes and gentle hints of honey, spice and oak. With an ABV of 44.1 per cent, the nose is fragrant and floral with fruit and oak lusciously intermingled. The finish is velvety smooth with a delicious citrus sweetness.
