Minister of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas Rich Coleman released the following statement on AME BC's 100th anniversary celebrations.
"This evening, the Association of Mineral Exploration British Columbia is celebrating 100 years of mineral exploration in the province.
"The mineral exploration and mining industry is a major part of B.C.'s vibrant economy accounting for 29,000 jobs in the sector today. Since the 1800s, mining has provided more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.
"Today the association has over 4,800 members from around the globe and has played a huge role in the success of British Columbia's $8.6-billion mineral exploration and mining industry.
"AME BC has grown to be one of the most respected mining organizations in North America and works to advance the interests of all those involved in the mining industry. I wish to add my congratulations for the association's success over its history and look forward to continuing our work together to ensure our industry's bright future."
