The potable-water piping at Delta Hospital is being upgraded to prevent water leaks throughout the hospital and ensure uninterrupted patient-care services and prevention of potential damage to hospital equipment.

As patient safety is directly linked to the proper management of the hospital machines, the potable-water piping at Delta Hospital requires upgrades to maintain this standard of patient care.

The project is a routine capital investment, and the total project cost of $250,000 will be funded by the government of British Columbia.

The potable-water piping upgrades are planned to be completed by February 2013.

Since 2001, more than $7 billion has been spent on health-capital projects in British Columbia. Over the next three years, British Columbia's health-care system will benefit from investments, including new medical equipment and modernized health facilities as part of a $2.3-billion health-sector capital plan.

Quotes:

Minister of Health, Dr. Margaret MacDiarmid -

"We're working together to improve patient safety and care. We are committed to reducing the risk of care and other service interruptions, and this announcement helps us deliver on these goals."

Fraser Health president and CEO, Dr. Nigel Murray -

"At Fraser Health, we have confidence in the level of care we provide, and this project, among many others, is dedicated to upholding that high standard of patient care."
