Caroline Berkey has been appointed the new chair of the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT), effective June 30, 2012.

Ms. Berkey has served nearly a decade as legal counsel at WCAT. Prior to joining WCAT she was a staff lawyer at the B.C. Law Institute for two years and served as a law clerk in the B.C. Supreme Court. She received her law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1999 and is a member of the Law Society of B.C.

WCAT is the final level of appeal in the workers' compensation system of British Columbia and is independent of WorkSafeBC.

The chair is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and is responsible for the general operation of the appeal tribunal.
