Ruskin Construction of Prince George has been awarded a $3.35-million contract to construct a two-lane bridge on the dangerous goods route in Dawson Creek.
The bridge will replace a culvert that was washed out by flooding during the massive rainfalls in the Peace last June.
The bridge is located on the dangerous goods route that bypasses Dawson Creek between Highway 97 and Highway 2. The project will include replacing the temporary bridge with a new permanent bridge, resurfacing the dangerous goods route from 208 Road to 250 metres south of the southern approaches, and channel improvements to Dawson Creek itself.
The new bridge will be constructed to a standard that will withstand a one in 200-year flood event while ensuring the reliability and safety of the dangerous goods route around the community.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin on Feb. 15 with completion by the end of July.
This project is part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to complete permanent repairs to the highway infrastructure damaged by last year's major flood event in the Peace area.
Quick Facts:
- 186 sites on the highway network were damaged during the 2011 Peace flood.
- This section of the dangerous goods route was one of 32 structures damaged by the high stream flows during the Peace flood.
