TRAIL/ROSSLAND/CASTLEGAR - This summer, key sections of provincial highway and local side roads in the West Kootenay region will be resurfaced to improve safety and travel for local residents, tourists and commercial vehicles.

A $1.7-million contract has been awarded to Interoute Construction Ltd. of Crescent Valley to resurface sections of Highway 22 and Highway 3B in the Trail and Warfield area, Highway 3 in the Castlegar area and Highway 3B near Fruitvale. As part of the contract, over 2.5 km of Castlegar and Nelson area local side roads will also be resurfaced.

The government of British Columbia is also investing $1.75 million to reconstruct and resurface Highway 3B through Rossland. This work is in conjunction with improvements being delivered by the City of Rossland. Work is underway and is scheduled to finish this fall.

Motorists are advised to check DriveBC for details of delays or closures at: www.drivebc.ca

Quote:

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Blair Lekstrom -

"Our provincial highways provide key connections between West Kootenay communities and the rest of the province, as well as to Alberta and the U.S. By investing in resurfacing, we're keeping these important roads safe for local families and improving travel through one of the most scenic parts of the province."
