Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health for Seniors Linda Larson was at the James Bay New Horizons activity centre today to announce $20,000 in funding, which will help local residents and seniors benefit from the centre’s wide variety of programs aimed at promoting social inclusion.
“We are thrilled to support the James Bay New Horizons activity centre as they continue to engage and empower members of their community,” said Larson. “It is critical that all levels of government collaborate with those on the front lines providing services to seniors in communities throughout British Columbia.”
Open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., James Bay New Horizons programs range from fitness classes, computer and Internet courses, discussion groups, health and financial courses, social groups, presentations, arts and crafts, seniors’ specific courses and more.
“We are passionate about supporting seniors and all residents in our community,” said James Bay New Horizons president Anne Logie. “Government’s investment of $20,000 will help us continue to offer a variety of important programs in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Established in 1974, the not-for-profit James Bay New Horizons activity centre operates in the heart of the James Bay neighbourhood of Victoria and offers a variety of memberships for local residents. With the goals of supporting lifelong learning and improving social connections, James Bay New Horizons works hard to ensure seniors and community-area residents learn new skills, have social outlets and ultimately enhance their quality of life.
